	DISMISSAL OF MEDICAID FRAUD CASE
	A company that received Medicaid benefits for transporting patients to and from medical appointments was indicted. The owners were accused of theft and computer fraud for entering code numbers that resulted in higher payments to the company. Specifically, the principles of the company were accused of charging the government more money for transporting wheelchair bound patients when, according to the government, they could walk. The officers and directors faced felony convictions and years in prison, and loss of any future government contracts. Our investigation generated statements from state and federal officials who said the company had followed government procedures. Confusion arose, they said, because the government was revising the coding system and had instructed our clients incorrectly about those changes. The case was dismissed on the brink of trial, and the company still has large profitable contracts with the government.
